World Book Day at The Gregg

This year’s World Book Day at The Gregg was a fantastic celebration of reading, imagination, and whole‑school participation. Staff and students across the school embraced a wide range of activities designed to bring stories to life and highlight the joy and importance of reading.

A Story in Six Parts

Throughout the day, lessons began with the next instalment of A Story in Six Parts. Teachers—and in some cases students—read each section aloud, creating a shared reading experience across every year group. 

World Book Day Lessons

Across the curriculum, departments incorporated book‑themed activities into lessons. A specially prepared set of suggested tasks allowed teachers to adapt the day to their subjects, encouraging students to explore reading from new perspectives.
In some classes, students enjoyed a full lesson of quiet reading—a valuable opportunity to immerse themselves in their current books and experience the academic and wellbeing benefits that reading provides.

Scavenger Hunt Adventure

During  break and lunchtime  students took part in the school‑wide Scavenger Hunt. By solving puzzles at various stations, students collected letters to form an anagram. Those who cracked OptimizedImage,,,Optimized the final keyword shared it with an English teacher to be entered into a prize draw for an Amazon voucher—earning themselves a house point along the way. The challenge proved popular, with many students eager to test their problem solving skills.

Library Activities - All Week

The library was a hub of activity, with a full programme of events running throughout the week. Students were encouraged to drop in and explore the resources, online Firefly activities, and special reading challenges prepared by our Librarian Ms King. These sessions helped students discover new books, authors, and creative tasks linked to the spirit of World Book Day.

Adding even more fun and creativity to the day, staff members joined the celebrations by dressing as book characters. From subtle nods to elaborate costumes, the enthusiasm from teachers across different departments helped make the day even more memorable for students.


World Book Day at The Gregg was a huge  success, uniting our school community in a shared love of reading.  Thank you to all staff and students who took part, contributed ideas and  joined in our activities.
